ReefX® Denit is a highly absorbent porous mineral which readily removes ammonia from marine aquariums before it can turn into nitrate and nitrate.
Zeolites are a type of mineral comprising mostly silica and aluminium which can be doped to absorb undesirable chemicals and elements from a solution. Denit is based on Clinoptilolite, a sodium-potassium zeolite which has a high affinity for ammonium (NH4+) and ammonia (NH3), making it a highly desirable filtration media for preventing nitrates forming in aquarium. It does not remove nitrate directly but prevents it from forming in the first place. Denit will also remove copper, lead and zinc.
For marine use 250ml/100 litres of water. Replace every month. For freshwater use decrease the amount by 30%.
Ideally use in a reactor, but can be used in a media bag. The water flow through the media should be 200-400 litres per hour. Start at the lower flow rate when first adding. Media should tumble or else be shaken daily.
It is not recommended to use the full amount on very new aquariums to allow the water to naturally cycle and the bacterial denitrification to build up within the aquarium. If using long-term it is recommended to learn more about zeolite use in marine aquariums.
