Environmental policy

At Live Reef we try to reduce our impact on our environment wherever we can.  We do this by reducing our energy needs, and lowering the amount of waste we produce; reusing materials where possible, and recycling what we cannot reuse.

To date over 95% of our factory and administrative waste is diverted from landfill to be reused or recycled, and we are working hard to increase this to 98%.

We have invested in exclusively low-energy heating/cooling and lighting in our UK factory, and source 100% of our electrical energy from renewable sources.

We recognise that our customers want to do their bit to look after our environment as well, and as responsible manufacturers we put considerable effort into the design and packaging of our products to ensure they are easy to recycle at the end of their lives.

When selecting recyclable PP and HDPE plastic bottles for our chemical additives we extensively evaluated non-plastic alternatives but found the recyclable bottles had a lower environmental impact, were reusable, and are more widely recycled than paper-foil-plastic hybrids.

Live Reef makes the following commitments for all the ReefX branded products we manufacture:

• 100% of our products and their packaging can be recycled.  This includes the outer packaging and any inserts.
• All of the packaging for our aquarium additives and treatments can be safely reused unless specified on the label.
• Where possible we will match the material of any product labels to the containers they are used with to ensure they are recycled.
• Some products are shrink wrapped in a recyclable film to protect them during transport.
• When we don’t need to use plastic we will use cardboard or paper.

If you cannot recycle any of our products or their containers locally you can return them to us and we will recycle them for you at no cost.
