A reef-safe specially formulated blended mix of bioavailable carbon sources to provide fuel to nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria already present in reef aquariums. Bacteria in deep sand beds and live rock oxidise the carbon into carbon dioxide while reducing nitrate from the water into chemically inert nitrogen gas. A slow-flow recirculating media reactor can also be used with a porous media to grow denitrifying bacteria.
Increasing the bioavailable carbon sources allows the levels of bacteria to grow quickly. The bacteria are a good food source for many organisms, including sponges and corals. Our blend has been engineered to avoid fuelling undesired cyanobacterial blooms, and is most effective when reducing nitrate levels that exceed 15ppm, alkalinity is greater than 7 dKH and pH is 8.2 or above.
The growth in bacteria will increase the consumption of oxygen in the aquarium. This product has a slight decreasing effect on pH levels so it recommended to slowly drip into a high flow area during daylight hours to reduce both effects and a skimmer must be used. This product is highly concentrated so do not exceed stated doses. If bacterial levels increase too quickly a bio-film may form on rocks and glass, or the water may go cloudy. If that happens the levels will reduce on their own but oxygen should be monitored.
Drip 1ml/100 litres per 10ppm nitrate measured (one drop = 1ml) up to 6ml (60ppm).
If the measured nitrate is above 60ppm then it is recommended to limit the dose to 6ml/100 litres until the levels fall below 60ppm then reduce dose as normal. Spread dose over one day (daylight hours).
